FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on the left and Port Harcourt-based lawyer Princewill Dike on the right, following Dike’s support for Wike’s criticism of Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Port Harcourt-based lawyer and public affairs analyst, Princewill Dike, has backed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, over his attacks on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, declaring that they have nothing to offer Nigerians.
Dike made his position known in a post on his Facebook page, Princewill Dike Platform, in Port Harcourt today, following Wike’s remarks at a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting in Ayama, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
At the meeting, Wike had described Atiku, Amaechi and Peter Obi, as “political gamblers”, warning Nigerians against entrusting their future to politicians he said lacked convincing records of performance.
The FCT Minister urged the people to assess political leaders based on their records in public office, insisting that the country’s destiny should be entrusted to individuals whose achievements could be demonstrated.
“Don’t trust your destiny to political gamblers. Don’t trust your destiny to ‘kalokalo’ people,” Wike was quoted as saying.
Wike further challenged Amaechi to explain what he attracted to Rivers State during his tenure as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also dismissed the suggestion that Atiku could emerge as Nigeria’s Abraham Lincoln, in remarks that further underscored the political differences between the FCT Minister and the opposition figures.
Backing Wike’s position, Dike maintained “that Nigerians should carefully examine the records and contributions of political leaders before deciding who deserves their support in future elections”.
The lawyer’s comments come amid growing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their supporters intensifying campaigns to win the confidence of the electorate.
Wike, during the Ayama meeting, also urged the people of Abua/Odual to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election, while calling for the election of candidates endorsed by his political camp on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He specifically appealed for support for OK Chinda as governor of Rivers State, Felix Obua for Rivers West Senatorial District, and Solomon Bob for the Abua/Odual-Ahoada East Federal Constituency.
Also speaking at the gathering, OK Chinda promised to sustain the governance approach associated with Wike, saying the lessons he had learnt from the former Rivers governor would guide his administration if elected.
Chinda said his proposed administration would adopt a bottom-up approach to governance, giving the people a greater role in determining their priorities and shaping decisions affecting their welfare.
Dike’s intervention adds to the ongoing political debate in Rivers State and beyond over the records of prominent political figures, their capacity to address Nigeria’s challenges, and the choices before voters as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
